Service Dogs

Here at DarkWood we try to have a service dog trained and at the ready all the time. These dogs are equipped with ID cards and Service Dog Vests so Dog and Handler can go anywhere, any time without question. These dogs have all passed their Canine Good Citizenship test and are trained with basic-advanced obedience. They have been on field trips to stores, banks, movie theatres, parks, etc, learning how to behave in public.

Unlike most Service Dog Training Centers, DarkWood Dog Training does not make you wait years for your dog to be finished with training. We strive to get you what you need as fast as we can without sacrificing on quality. Each DarkWood Service Dog is spayed/neutered and trained to serve you in a variety of ways:

General Assistance: General Assistance Dogs are equipped to help you in and outside your home. They can open doors, open cabinets & drawers, pick up retrieved items, retrieve specific items, etc.

Mobility Assistance: Mobility Assistance Dogs are trained to aid with balance by bracing on command and staying perfectly steady until you feel ready to move on. These dogs can also be trained in the same way as General Assistance upon request.

Autism Alert: Autism Alert Dogs sense anxiety and aid in comforting/soothing handler, stop at roadways and waits for command from handler to move on, find Handler in "lost" scenario, and more. These dogs are ideal for young children who often have a close connection with dogs.

Diabetic Alert: Diabetic Alert Dogs are trained to alert you to changes in your blood sugar levels. They are trained to nudge/lick you until the problem is addressed and resolved. These dogs can take more time to locate than other types of assistance dogs due to the very specialized needs. No dog can be guaranteed to alert you 100% of the time to changes in blood sugar levels however, we work hard to be able to offer you the highest level of training possible. Most dogs in this type of job increase in reliability over time; the more bonded they are to you and the more time spent reinforcing existing training, the better the reliability. 

Specialized Assistance: Specialized Assistance Dogs are trained to your specifications. Need a dog that stops at roadways or alerts to the phone ringing? We can help! This program is designed to cater to your exact needs.

All DarkWood Service Dogs are also put through our intense Obedience training program and, once placed with you, we will work with you and your new Service Dog to make sure you are comfortable with every aspect of your dog. Each dog will come with his or her very own Service Vest and ID card to go with it. The prices for these services vary from case to case, however the base price for any dog is $2000 and goes up to $3500. The prices include the stay here at DarkWood and a minimum of 4 weeks' worth of training (training time varies from job to job and dog to dog). We do our very best to provide the highest level of training and owner satisfaction.
